Taylor Swift Is Proud In New Video ‘You Need To Calm Down’

It’s only been a few days since Taylor Swift released her new single “You Need To Calm Down,” yet she’s already blessed us with a rainbow-filled video. And yes, by rainbow, we mean pride.

The video is perky, colourful, and has a whole lot going on, with a bunch of familiar faces too, most members of the LGBTQ+ community. The Queer Eye men have a tea party, Adam Lambert gives Ellen a tattoo, there’s a beauty pageant led by RuPaul himself, featuring past contestants of his show dressed as famous pop stars, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson ‘renews’ his wedding vows with his real-life husband in a ceremony officiated by Ciara. Talk about a diverse group of stars. Other celebs include Hayley Kiyoko, Laverne Cox, YouTuber Hannah Hart, Olympian ice skater Adam Rippon, Todrick Hall, and way too many more for us to name.

The biggest, most exciting bit of it all, however, is the official reunion between Miss Swift and Katy Perry, dressed up as fries and a burger respectively. There’s a lot of smiling and hugging done by these two, quite literally squashing their beef. A happy ending to a happy video.

Just last week, Perry Instagrammed a plate of (very yummy looking) cookies, with “Peace At Last” written in icing, implying that the popstars’ feud was finally over. But no one could have guess that it would result in a music video appearance, and  a few more Insta posts. Guess the girls may actually be friends now.

Going along with the theme of LGBTQ+, Swift ended the video stating “Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally.” She also asked the audience to sign her petition for Senate to support the Equality Act. It seems like she’s become a new outspoken ally for the community.

“You Need To Calm Down” is the second single off of Swift’s upcoming album Lover, following “Me!” which features Panic! at the Disco leader Brendan Urie. The record is out August 23.
